Into the Heart of Akamas

The Akamas Peninsula, a wild coastal frontier in western Cyprus, beckoned me with its promise of adventure and natural beauty. As a former extreme sports athlete, I was no stranger to the call of the wild, but this time, it was the combination of land and sea that intrigued me. The day began with a mini trek into the Avakas Gorge, a part of the European Natura 2000 network. The gorge, with its towering limestone walls and narrow pathways, was a sight to behold. The thrill of navigating through the rugged terrain, with the sound of the wind echoing through the gorge, was a reminder of the many mountain climbs I’ve conquered. After a hearty lunch, it was time to embark on the sea portion of our adventure. The boat ride to the Blue Lagoon was exhilarating. The wind in my hair and the spray of the sea on my face brought back memories of my cliff-jumping days. The Blue Lagoon, with its sky-blue waters and sandy seabed, was a paradise. Swimming and snorkeling in the warm, clear waters was a perfect way to end the day. The vibrant marine life and the feeling of weightlessness as I floated in the lagoon were a reminder of the wonders that lie beneath the surface.
