Unforgettable tour of Koyasan with Hira San - It's taken me some time to submit this review, but I would be remiss if I did not return to TripAdvisor to write it. My daughter attends a boarding school in Japan. She, my sister and I visited Koyasan and stayed at the beautiful Fudoin monastery in October 2024. Our soft-spoken tour guide, Hira San, was just about the sweetest human being on the planet. He made our time at Koyasan absolutely unforgettable. The sights were stunning, and the beauty of the temples ethereal. But most importantly, Hira San's overwhelmingly thoughtful, kind, patient and caring demeanor embodied the spiritual nature of the surroundings. Even before we arrived, he communicated with us by email to ensure he clearly and thoroughly understood our needs. He then meticulously planned every moment of our trip to ensure we experienced this UNESCO World Heritage treasure in the best possible manner. Every detail of our time with him stands out, and not just because of the brilliant tour itself. He went above and beyond every step of the way, treating us like his own family; from providing his own umbrella to keep us dry while he got drenched in the rain, to running down a mountainside with my daughter to find her a restroom in a remote area, to scouting the perfect lunch restaurant with vegan options for me, to coming inside the train station at the end of the tour and waiting there to ensure we were taken care of until the moment we left. He even insisted on giving me his beautiful hand-held fan, which I had complimented earlier, as a memento. I have no words to describe how grateful and happy we were to have had the good fortune to meet such a warm, generous, inspiring human being. Hira San, if you're reading this, it was our great honor to spend time with and learn from you. And we all look forward to returning to Koyasan again someday to hopefully see more of it with you. Arigato Gozaimashta.

Amazing experience! - Naka-san is an amazing guide, who goes above and beyond for his customers. He was extremely informative, and tailored the tour to what he could see us enjoying. He also helped us with recommendations relevant to us for Koyasan after our tour. We will definitely be coming back at some time and hopefully we will have the chance to have him guide us again!

Good personal tour - Our guide Miyuki attended to our every need. We had to change up things last minute due to transportation timing and that was no issue. The tour was great and Miyuki was extremely knowledgeable on the tour sites. The added pictorial binder was a great touch.

Amazing day! - Whole day trip to this jewel of Japan. Our guide, Naka, was so good and knowledgeable. Unlikely we would have gotten to know the history and beauty of the area without him. Highly recommended.

Most recommended - We had an amazing day in Koyasan with our guide Yuki. She introduced us to culture and religions, explained the many statues, graveyards and procedures. We couldn't have such a great and detailed insight when exploring on our own. We can recommend it to everyone.

Nice place, good Guide, may be a bit shorter or a bit larger group - What a nice Guide, Naka. He had taken dr trouble to print out information in Dutch. He knew a lot about the graves and could answer all our questions. It was a nice tour although we would have preferred a small group of 2 or 3 more people. 4 hours is too long in our view for 1 Guide with 2 people.

Excellent explanation - I loved! The guide is super friendly and knowledgeable, the explanation was very good. It takes you to super beautiful places in Koyasan and gives you tour options tailored to your needs. It is worth 10,000 to go with a guide, to understand everything you are visiting.

Mt. Koya Sacred 4hr Private Tour with Government Licensed Guide - Our guide was a very nice local person, but his English (and that was supposed to be a tour in English) was extremely (and I mean extremely) poor. We did not get any useful information during the 4h that he was with us. Very frustrating, and a waste of money.
