Situated approximately 60 km west of Krakow is the small town of Oswiecim. In 1940, a series of German concentration camps were set up in this location. The largest among them was Auschwitz-Birkenau, where over 1.5 million inmates experienced torture and death during World War II.
Auschwitz-Birkenau stands preserved in its original form, as a stark reminder of the horrendous crimes perpetrated against humankind. The museum showcases the remnants of crematoriums, gas chambers, the railway platform, and other remnants of the former concentration camp.
