You’ll pass under the infamous sign “Arbeit Macht Frei” (Work Makes You Free). This portion of the tour typically lasts two hours, during which you’ll use a headset to hear your guide clearly. The group size is limited to 30 people, as per the Museum’s regulations, ensuring a comfortable and accessible experience for all participants. Explore the original wooden barracks, fortified walls, barbed wire fences, gas chambers, and crematoria, which together leave a haunting impression and allow visitors to grasp the immense scale of the Holocaust.
  • Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau - Begin your tour by walking through the gate of Auschwitz I, the first camp, initially established as a concentration camp for Polish citizens arrested after Germany annexed the country in 1939. You’ll pass under the infamous sign “Arbeit Macht Frei” (Work Makes You Free). This portion of the tour typically lasts two hours, during which you’ll use a headset to hear your guide clearly. • Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau - After visiting the first camp, you’ll have a short break of up to 15 minutes. Following this, we will take you to the second part of the tour—Birkenau (Auschwitz II), located just 3 minutes away. Birkenau, the largest camp, was built and operated with the sole purpose of making Europe “Judenrein” (free of Jews). Your guide will continue the powerful narrative at Birkenau, located in the village of Brzezinka. Constructed in 1941 under the orders of SS commander Heinrich Himmler, the camp could hold around 90,000 prisoners. You’ll hear harrowing accounts of the brutal living conditions, the cruel selection process, and the pseudo-scientific medical experiments carried out by Nazi doctors, including Josef Mengele. The tour concludes with a story of liberation when soldiers from the 60th Army of the First Ukrainian Front opened the gates of Auschwitz on January 27, 1945, leaving you with a profound understanding that such genocide should never have occurred—and must never happen again.
  • Krakow - At the end of the tour, you won’t be rushed. You’ll have at least a 20-minute break to visit a bookstore, or simply rest. After another 1 hour and 15 minutes of travel, you will be taken to a designated address in Krakow.

After the tour you may attend the 1h Old Town Evening Walking Tour provided by a Local Guide. Your participation will be free of charge.

Gréât tour with Michael - This tour is very good. I went with Michael who was very organised, patient and provided a lot of information to give real context and human stories. Transport was of a good standard. Many thanks Michael 👍

Never forget. - An eye opening experience for my family on the atrocities of war and the human condition. Walking the two camps as they were in the 1940's was very sobering.

Amazing and Deeply Moving - Amazing and deeply moving! Tour guide was very friendly, incredibly informative and super helpful. The tour itself was incredible and gave an incredible, and somber insight into the history of this place. I couldn’t recommend more!

Bucket list ticked off at Auschwitch - Pick up at meeting point was originally at 7am but got changed to 6am. Not a big deal but be prepared to know it can change. Driver / guide was Michael and he was very punctual. He gave us clear instructions on the timings at each destination. Very knowledgeable guide!

Auschwitz I-Birkenau - The museum itself and the surroundings were an extremely moving experience. Hard to take in all the terrible but so important knowledge. And on the whole a very good and interesting day. Participated in group guided tours. The guide spoke good English and you got headphones so you could hear good what the guide said. Unfortunately, the experience was compromised by the fact that the museum brought in far too many visitors at once. It was crowded and difficult to get to and see the stands and pictures properly. Everything also went at a furious pace, more leapfrog than walk and if you tried to slow down the mass pressed after and you also came after your group. The guide didn’t wait for the whole group either, but when they boated the next info point, they started talking and we who got behind missed what they said. (was probably pressed by some schedule they did not control over himself). Now we were there in high season, maybe it's better / less people other times of the year? After all, an experience one should not miss, gave so much even if it was sad.

One reason I don't like organized tours - Organization perfect, punctual pickup in the morning around 6am. Were then transferred to other bus which brought us to Oswiecim, so Auschwitz in small group. Arrived after about 70 km first 15 minutes break, why? Then security check as at the airport, guide had pointed us out but probably failed to tell us why actually... later in Birkenau absolutely no check. Tour through Auschwitz 1 interesting with lots of info but unfortunately too fast, no time to let this affect you... too bad! Then again 15 minutes rest... pointless! Short drive to Ausschwitz 2 Birkenau, again lots of interesting information but unfortunately too fast and again no time to let the whole thing take effect. After the tour 20 minutes break... why??? The tour should initially last 7 hours from Krakow, after 6 hours we were back again... maybe the missing hour and the unnecessary breaks should have been given room for the concentration camp visit. It wasn't cheap anyway and you get the impression that the Holocaust is going to be a tourist attraction... We visited Majdanek in Lublin alone and the impression left us more than a guided tour of Auschwitz.

Wait, pickup is at what time?! - The vehicle was comfortable. The video shown on route was informative. Our guide at the sites was just ok as she was obviously being trained on the job. There was another person with her telling her what to say and reminding her of things she omitted. We noticed other tour groups were hearing a lot more info than we were as we walked in Birkenau, or rather power walked as she was walking VERY fast like she was double parked but overall the tour was good. 4/5 1/5 for how Krakow Direct handled our reservation. I had made the online reservation over a month in advance for a 10:00 am pickup. Around 5:00 pm the night before however, I received a text message stating they were changing my pickup time to 5:30 AM!!! I texted back asking for my original reservation request to honored. They tried to comply but no avail, saying it was Auschwitz itself that made the change necessary (!). Here's a theory. Maybe I'm wrong. I had made my reservation a month in advance for 10am. Krakow Direct goes "Sure, no prob" even though that slot was probably not available. Then, after the full refund cancellation window had closed, they let me know what they knew all along. (You never had the 10am, sucker. It was always 5:30am!) Had I known only 5:30am was available for my selected date, I would have taken it and made necessary adjustment to our itinerary for the night before. No problem. Instead, being blindsided by Krakow Direct when it was too late to get a refund really left a bad taste. The tour itself was fine but Krakow Direct gets low marks for lack of coolness.

BEWARE: They will sell you a book instead of a tour - This is a booklet sale - they will sell you a book This is not a tour and it’s worded very poorly and it is unclear They want to sell a book you’re paying for a book not for a tour. Beware of the scam. Most people do not come to Poland to buy a book You can buy books everywhere — this outfit wants to take your money and give you a book. Viator support is no good either.

Never picked us up and uncooperative - Please do not trust this company. We booked this, received an email with meeting instructions with and actual photo of where we were to meet and were at the appointed place 30 minutes early. The bus(a big bus) came and our name wasn't on "The List". The tour operator could not be contacted by us nor by the Viator representative. WE TRUSTED VIATOR to vet the companies they work with, Both Viator Phone Representatives, last one Cleo, tried their best to help. Then when they reached the,, the company tried to say we only paid for a book. A book for $40? We are still arguing about a refund. Avoid them.
