- Krakow - The tour begins with transportation from Krakow, departing from a central meeting point in the city. The Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum is situated in Oswiecim, about 1 hour and 15 minutes away (65 km). All drivers possess the required EU certifications for passenger transport. A friendly, English-speaking group leader will be on hand to assist as needed. Upon arrival in Oswiecim, there will be a short break to enjoy a coffee or explore the outdoor exhibits. Following this, entrance tickets to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum will be provided.
- Auschwitz-Birkenau - “Judenrampe” - The Judenrampe (Jewish Ramp) was a railway unloading platform used during the Holocaust from 1942 to 1944 at the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp. It was located between the Auschwitz I (main camp) and Auschwitz II-Birkenau camps.
Today, the Judenrampe serves as a memorial site with plaques commemorating the victims. Unlike the well-known “Gate of Death” at Birkenau, the Judenrampe played a crucial but lesser-known role in the mass deportations.
- Auschwitz II Historical Gate - The tour proceeds to the second, larger camp—Birkenau (Auschwitz II), just 3 minutes from Auschwitz. Birkenau, the largest camp, was constructed and operated with the aim of making Europe “Judenrein” (free of Jews). The guide will continue the impactful narrative at Birkenau, located in the village of Brzezinka. Built in 1941 under the orders of SS commander Heinrich Himmler, the camp could accommodate around 90,000 prisoners. Visitors will hear poignant accounts of the harsh living conditions, the cruel selection process, and the pseudo-scientific medical experiments conducted by Nazi doctors, including Josef Mengele. The tour concludes with the story of liberation when soldiers from the 60th Army of the First Ukrainian Front opened the gates of Auschwitz on January 27, 1945, leaving participants with a deep understanding that such genocide should never have occurred—and must never happen again.
- Memorial and Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau - After visiting Birkenau, the tour continues to the Auschwitz camp by walking through the gate of Auschwitz I, the first camp, initially established as a concentration camp for Polish citizens arrested after Germany annexed the country in 1939. Participants will pass under the infamous sign “Arbeit Macht Frei” (Work Makes You Free). This part of the tour typically lasts two hours, during which a headset is used to hear the guide clearly. The group size is limited to 30 people, in accordance with the Museum’s regulations, ensuring a comfortable and accessible experience for all. Explore the original wooden barracks, fortified walls, barbed wire fences, gas chambers, and crematoria, which together leave a haunting impression and allow visitors to comprehend the immense scale of the Holocaust.
- Krakow - At the end of the tour, there is no rush. Participants will have a short break to rest. After another 1 hour and 15 minutes of travel, they will be taken to a designated address in Krakow.
