Additional Information

Krakow’s renowned communist relics remain prominent and well-preserved. Climb into your Trabant (or the iconic Polish Fiat or whimsical Soviet Lada) and embark on a journey back in time as you navigate the city in an automobile produced by the Eastern Bloc. Take a trip to the Nowa Huta district, noted for being the city’s stronghold of communism. Immerse yourself in the history of a community that was a ‘gift’ from Stalin to Krakow. Ponder over the intricacies of the apartment complexes, designed as the ideal communist city. Listen to tales of life beyond the Iron Curtain as you traverse the focal point of Poland’s revolt, which eventually culminated in the dissolution of the communist regime.

The notable ‘Communism Tour’ gained fame in BBC’s ‘Palin’s New Europe’ series and has been extensively covered by various global broadcasts and publications.

For an enhanced tour experience, choose the 4-hour Deluxe package, which comprises a guided tour to the deserted headquarters and offices at the erstwhile Lenin Steelworks and a Pierogi lunch at a retro restaurant.

Fun tour with great insights into Poland's communist past - Brilliant experience of more recent history of Cracow and Poland. We had great laughs and an unforgettable experience. Maciek and Kornelia were so well informed and funny. Fantastic 2.5h. I'd highly recommend it.

The Commie Tour is a Must Do! - Between Cornelia’s vast wealth of knowledge about Poland’s communist past and the amazing little car in which we drove all over Nowa Huta I have to say it was an afternoon I will never forget. I saw a bunker untouched since its doors closed decades ago, a store that looks like time stood still, and so much in between. Cornelia was entertaining and extremely knowledgeable about the not-so-distant past. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Poland’s history.

Be sure to check out the local milk bar after your tour! - This was an unexpected (but welcome!) addition to my time in Kraków. After completing some of the more common tourist activities in the area related to WWII, my friend and I were looking for something a bit different for our last day in the area. We were able to book this tour the evening before it took place, and we were so glad that things worked out! From getting picked up in a Trabant to getting to try communist-era fizzy drinks, the experience was both educational and delightful. I am also extremely glad that our tour guide recommended that we check out the local milk bar for lunch after the tour. It was the icing on the cake to our Nowa Huta experience.

Great, unique experience! Highly recommended! - This is my fifth time taking this tour. I’ve been to Krakow many times and even own property here. It is my favorite tour, and is always the one I recommend to friends and family. It is so personalized and so very different!

A quirky experience - We really enjoyed this tour. Our guide was really knowledgeable and gave us lots of facts about the history of communism in Poland. It was great being driven around the district of Nowa Huta in a blue trabant. If you like anything quirky and historical, then I recommend this tour for you.

Fantastic group of friends tour - Had a fantastic tour with a group of friends with a lot of humor but also visited interesting places with a bit of history. The crazy guides provide a good dose of humor and a pleasant atmosphere with disco polo.

A great tour, Matt was a super guide! - Really enjoyed a fascinating look around Nowa Huta with our very informative guide Matt in his Polski Fiat 126. Loads of history and stories about this once communist neighbourhood and its steel works. Would recommend, we had a great afternoon.

The highlight of our visit to Krakow - I'd done this tour previously in 2019 and loved it, so when I visited Krakow again with a friend this was the first thing we booked. We did the deluxe tour. The visit to the bunker was new since my previous tour and was very interesting and a real step back in time. We both enjoyed the whole tour which is great fun but also informative. Our guide, Cornelia (who had also taken me and my husband on the tour in 2019), was great company, it was like spending half a day with a friend. This tour was the highlight of our visit to Krakow.

Well worth the money - Cornelia was our guide. She was punctual and a good driver. She was also very knowledgeable about the communist era in Poland and we learnt a lot. We didn’t get the true Trabant experience as the engines have been upgraded, but as she said it means you don’t have to worry about getting the bus home! All in all money well spent. Thank you.
