The monument in the square, featuring 70 large, well-spaced metal chairs, symbolizes both departure and absence, serving as a poignant tribute to the victims of the Krakow ghetto.
• Ghetto Wall Fragment - This 12-meter section of the original ghetto wall stands as Kraków’s most significant remnant of its ghetto. In 1983, a commemorative plaque was installed, bearing inscriptions in Hebrew and Polish: “Here they lived, suffered, and died at the hands of the German torturers. From here they began their final journey to the death camps.”
• Eagle Pharmacy - Museum of Krakow - Between 1941 and 1943, this was the only pharmacy within the Kraków ghetto operated by a Pole who was permitted to remain in the area designated by the Germans exclusively for Jews. The pharmacy’s owner aided many Jews by providing medicine, shelter, information, and facilitating contact with their families.
• Plaszow Concentration Camp - While many tourists use Krakow as a base for visiting Auschwitz, few realize that Krakow itself has a former concentration camp nearby. Located across the river in Podgórze, this vast, largely undeveloped area lies in one of the city’s most sought-after commercial and residential districts, along the main thoroughfare (Wielicka Street), opposite a large shopping center (Bonarka), and near a major tourist attraction (Krakus Mound). This site was once the `` Konzentrationslager Plaszow bei Krakau ‘’, a German Nazi concentration camp. Today, it is a wild, uneven expanse of land that until recently bore little indication of its historical significance.
