Additional Information

In the course of World War II, the Poguzhe region hosted a Jewish ghetto. Today, after nearly 75 years since the conflict’s conclusion, traces of that turbulent past are still evident in the district. It continues to remind current residents of war atrocities and the pressing necessity to forestall similar happenings. The renowned Plac Bohaterów Getta (Square of Ghetto Heroes) can be observed, a location where Jews were systematically chosen and dispatched to concentration camps. A section of the original Ghetto wall can also be witnessed, a significant monument and pilgrimage site for numerous Jews. Buildings that once sheltered thousands of uprooted Jews are observable, including the ‘Under the Eagle’ pharmacy. Traversing these avenues and uncovering their chronicles from its origin to the current period always provides an enlightening experience.
