The wartime history of Deutsche Emailwarenfabrik - DEF - and its owner, Oskar Schindler, were depicted in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film Schindler’s List. To this day, tourists from all over the world visit this place to personally experience where Oskar Schindler saved over a thousand people. The exhibition presents his character and the stories of the Krakow Jews he saved as part of the city’s complex war history. Oskar Schindler’s heroic deed is commemorated in his office, which has been fortunately preserved in the factory’s administrative building. Inside, there is a symbolic “ark of survivors” made of thousands of pots resembling those produced by his employees during the war.
