Additional Information

Embark on a half-day, 4-hour journey from Krakow that reveals the hidden trails of subterranean passageways. About 30 - 40 minutes into the drive, you’ll arrive at the Wieliczka Salt Mine to pair up with an English-speaking guide. Your guide will help you dive deeper into the history and significance of this site while highlighting its primary attractions. Typically, the guided tour of the Wieliczka Salt Mine spans 2 - 2.5 hrs. Throughout this exploration, you’re sure to visit the St Kinga’s Chapel, a stunning underground marvel. With its 54 m length and nearly 12 m height, it mirrors the interiors of ancient wooden churches, complete with magnificent salt crystal chandeliers, submerged corridors and landscapes, unseen saline lakes and exquisite subterranean chambers. Be prepared to climb about 800 stairs on the standard tourist route, with half of them found at the entrance. The tour concludes with our driver chauffeuring you back to Krakow.

  • A moderate amount of walking is involved. The route includes over 800 stairs.
  • Not recommended for participants who become easily claustrophobic. There are some very narrow paths inside the salt mine and this may be difficult for some. Once you have begun the tour there is no possibility to shorten your visit or turn back.
  • Hand luggage should be of a reasonable size, and larger luggage should be left in the car.
  • There is no minimum age to experience the activity, however, children should be capable of walking unassisted or be carried in baby slings or baby carriers. Baby strollers are not allowed underground.
  • Temperatures in Wieliczka Salt Mine are around 15ºC or 59ºF, it is recommended that you bring a jacket

I’d do it again - I’ve done a lot of trips in Europe and this was by far one of the best ones ever. Just simply mind-boggling what the miners were able to create more than 350 feet below the surface. I definitely recommend this tour. Remember to turn on your WhatsApp notifications because that is how the driver will communicate with you for pickup.

First class trip from start to finish - First class service from start to finish. We were picked up on time outside our hotel and taken to the salt mines by a very informative driver. We were then given a packed lunch to eat in the park area near the entrance to the mine. This was delicious. The tour of the mines took around 2 hours and was given by Roman a very knowledgeable guide. The mines are fantastic and well worth a visit. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing as it is around 15c in the mine. We were then taken back to the Krakow and had the option of either being dropped off in the main square or at our hotel. All in all a wonderful experience and recommended to others.

Great half day outing from Krakow - The carvings and how hard the miners must have worked to make the tunnels. The transportation to the mines and the excellent guide at the Salt Mines made for an enjoyable tour.

Great Trip - The mines are only about 40 minutes from Krakow so it is an easy place to visit for half or full day. Amazing to learn that salt has been mined since the mid 1600's. Very informative guide. Surprising to see how large some of the caverns are. They are cavernous. You have to walk down about 800 steps ending up 130 metres from the surface. However there is a lift when you have finished the tour to take you back up to the surface. An enjoyable day.
