Visit notable historical buildings, the central market, provincial hall, and the iconic Ta Dambong Kranhoung statue. (60 minutes)

After exploring the city, head to a local spot where Khmer rice noodles are made. This dish is a popular choice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can sample it too.

  • Wat Samrong Knong - Watch locals prepare bamboo sticky rice, a dessert or sweet snack known for its quality and delicious taste.

Next, visit Wat Samrong Knong, the oldest Buddhist temple in the area, built in 1707. Admire the brick stupa from 1887. Learn about the temple’s use during the Khmer Rouge regime (April 1975 to January 1979) as a base for soldiers and a detention area for victims. See the torture house and killing field where around 10,008 victims were killed.

Continue to a site where rice paper is produced, used for making spring rolls. Discover how villagers make at least 1500 rice papers a day. Try fresh and fried spring rolls.

  • Ek Phnom - Take a short ride to a rice wine production site, operating since the 1980s. Learn about the production process and sample some rice wine. Hear about its use in medication and for soaking plants, fruits, and even poisonous animals like cobras and tarantulas. Visit a 25m high giant Buddha surrounded by standing Buddha statues. Walk to a beautiful Buddhist temple built in 1991 and see the Buddha story depicted on the walls. Explore the ruins of an 11th-century Angkorian Hindu temple built under King Suryavarman I. Return to the city for lunch or a 1-hour break. (Optional)
  • Battambang - After visiting northern Battambang, return to the city.
  • Bamboo Train Ou Srauo Laou - Pass through beautiful villages, fruit plantations, rice fields, and a suspension bridge. Interact with local farmers. Buy a ticket and board the bamboo train for a unique ride. Enjoy the scenery and get a free “butt massage” from the train’s movement. Have a late lunch at a local village restaurant.
  • Phnom Sampeau - Before arriving, try K F R (rat barbecue). At Phnom Sampou, take a motorbike or pickup truck to the mountain to visit the Killing Cave and learn about the Khmer Rouge era (1975-1979) where over 10,000 victims were killed. Explore temples, see monkeys, cannons, and enjoy the sunset and viewpoints from the mountain summit.

The only tour to book in Battambang - Samol is a dude, loves to try his Aussie accent mate. Great English and is very proud of his city and country which shows. His talk of the history and then the terrible Pol Po period before going into the killing caves was excellent. It was only me so he wouldn't have made much money so i tipped decent in my appreciation for the individual tour. Could not rage him higher.

A great way to spend the morning - I had to book this tour with Samol after doing a half-day tour with him the prior day. A whole different vibe, I could explore the process a different rice based foods, rice noodles, rice paper, rice wine, and sticky rice bamboo (which I loved). While doing it you're also supporting local families. We visited a few temples as well and Samol explained to me different symbolisms and stories of Buddhism. It was a great way to spend the morning

Great day with Samol in Battambang! - We had a great day with Samol. He welcomed us as a friend and showed us his city of Battambang and the surrounding area. He enjoys his job so much, you can tell and you benefit from it in equal measure. We had lots of exciting insights into the lives of the locals and he also showed us lots of great things in nature (various fruit trees, animals and agriculture) We would recommend everyone to take a tour with Samol ♥️ he also adapts it to his guests individually. Speaks great English!

Have so much fun with Sam Ol and Wendy - After the afternoon tour, I booked Sam ol for another tour in the morning to complete my full day experience, and I had so much fun the whole morning. Though, the rice noodle is not being produced but he still went far and beyond to explain things for me and searched for the rice noodle so I can try how it tastes, and he able to find a good chicken curry rice noodle from the local shop, I’m so happy for it because I got to taste the real authentic one cooked by the local. He also very flexible to make sure that my needs and requests are being fulfilled even when I told him I want to buy cat food, he did find me a local petshop early in the morning while they are not open yet 😁 All of his explanation also very clear and able to be understand, and he shared all of his knowledge regarding the places we visited, with ‘additional’ interesting information about the country and the history behind it, as always 😁 Overall, if you visit Battambang I recommend to use Sam Ol tour to experience Battambang at its very best ❤️

Be sure to spend an afternoon with Samol! - Samol is one of the best guides we've ever had. He speaks great English, has a lot of information, is funny and was always by our side. We definitely took the bamboo train and tried the rat. We were more than skeptical. But it was simply an experience that we will never forget!

Amazing tour and guide - Sam ol was an amazing tour guide, and so helpful with all our cambodia travel plans. The tour was amazing with so many stops and interesting stories about battambang, buddhism, Khmer rouge and many more. He is clearly a very experienced guide and knows the answer to any question you have. He took us to a really nice quiet spot after seeing the bats initially leave the cave to see the path of the bats which I was surprised to see no other tour guide take their groups to. Overall and amazing tour I would highly recommend.
