A Journey Through Kampot’s Hidden Gems

When I first heard about the Half Day Tour in Kampot, I was immediately intrigued. The serene atmosphere and the view of the surrounding rice paddies made the climb worthwhile.

Next, we visited the Brateak Krola Lake, a man-made marvel with a poignant history. Phalla shared the story of how it was dug by hand during the Khmer Rouge regime, a sobering reminder of Cambodia’s turbulent past. Despite its origins, the lake is now a peaceful spot, surrounded by unspoiled nature. We took a leisurely stroll along the dirt road encircling the lake, taking in the tranquil scenery.

The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly La Plantation, a FairTrade and Organic peppercorn and spice farm. I was amazed by the free tour and tasting session, where we learned about the cultivation of Kampot pepper, renowned for its unique flavor. The farm’s commitment to sustainable practices was inspiring, and I couldn’t resist purchasing some pepper to take home.

As we made our way back, Phalla surprised us with fresh green coconut juice, a refreshing treat after a day of exploration. He even cut up the coconut so we could enjoy the flesh, a thoughtful gesture that encapsulated the warmth and hospitality of the Cambodian people.
