This small town was relatively remote but brought to fame by the almost extinct Mekong River dolphins. The best spot to watch the dolphins is at the Kampi village, 15 km north from town. Dolphin watching is a very popular activity. It is estimated that there are less than 80 dolphins left and the best time to see them frolicking, sometimes in large groups, is in the late afternoon.

Awesome! - our trip to see the dolphins was great and it was made even better by our tour guide Hak. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, we saw many dolphins. We weren’t out on the river for too long as it was so hot however Hak drove us to a nearby small fishing village where we could relax and swim in the river. A lovely day 100% recommend!

Definitely do the dolphin tour - but just organise a Tuk Tuk yourself - We would hugely recommend the dolphin tour - but just get a Tuk Tuk to drive you out to the boat office and pay $8 to be taken out on the boat. We don’t think this tour was worth it. The guide didn’t tell us anything about the area, the river, or the dolphins. He didn’t come on the boat with us (so the photos are a bit misleading) and just dropped us at the boat office to buy our tickets (NOT included in this price). He did the same at the temple - just dropped us at the bottom of the stairs (after making us take smiley photos with him). The temple has lots of signs explaining the history but none in English so we didn’t have a clue about the history of the site. Overall, the dolphin trip was amazing (we saw 5!) but this tour was a let down and you’re essentially paying for an expensive Tuk Tuk driver.

DISAPPOINTED 😰😰😰😰 - So there it's still a small racket, €21.37 precisely, you think that you are going to spend a good two hours discovering and observing the dolphins. No, journey included so around 30/45 minutes on the water in a small boat and around 45 minutes by tuk-tuk in the dust. I have nothing against this price except that when you arrive at the place you have to pay 10 dollars so around 30€ for 1.30 🥶🥶🥶🥶IT’S TOO EXPENSIVE MR TRIPADVISOR! Sorry, I actually saw dolphins but for 30/45 minutes and not at the best time of the day since it was at sunset, it's an AVERAGE SCAM! Disappointed with this outing to Kratié. Michael. 😨😨😰😰😰
