Next, we will explore Ta Prohm, also known as the Tomb Raider temple. This renowned temple served as a filming location for the Tomb Raider movie starring Angelina Jolie. The ancient temple has been left to nature, with the jungle growing through its center.
Finally, we’ll visit Bayon temple, located in the heart of Angkor Thom, the ancient walled city that was the center of the Khmer Empire for many centuries. Bayon is famous for the faces that adorn its towers, believed to represent either the king or the Gods watching over the people.
Day 2
Koh Ker is a remarkable 7-tiered pyramid-style temple. Its unique design has led some experts to speculate that the Khmer might have had extraterrestrial assistance in its construction. We will spend a few hours exploring the pyramid and its surroundings. Situated in dense jungle, Koh Ker is not overrun by tourists, allowing for a peaceful exploration.
We’ll also visit Beng Mealea, once a temple on an ancient highway connecting the main temples of Angkor to Preah Khan. Today, you can admire the stunning ruins designed to mirror Angkor Wat. Although Beng Mealea is a large temple, it is still smaller in comparison to the world-renowned Angkor Wat.
