Highlights

Day 1

Pre Rup temple is known as a mountain temple due to the steep climb to the towers at the top. It’s well worth making the effort to get to the top as you’ll get a unique view of the beautiful surrounding countryside. Pre Rup is one of the earlier temples built by the Khmer Kings and a popular temple with visitors.

We will then visit Banteay Samre which is a stunning example of Khmer architecture which was built in a similar style to Angkor Wat temple. This is one of the more popular temples in the complex and you can easily spend an hour exploring the towers and looking at the intricate carvings.

we’ll see one of the highlights of your visit to Siem Reap – Banteay Srei. This unique temple is made from pink sandstone from the quarries in the Kulen Mountain range. It is also home to some intricate carvings which if the legend is true, were carved by women. It’s said that the carvings are too beautiful to have been carved by men!

We will visit Ta Prohm which is also known as the Tomb Raider temple. This famous temple was used as a set for the Tomb Raider Movie starring Angelina Jolie. This old temple has been left to the elements and the jungle is growing through the middle of the building.

Finally, we’ll visit Banteay Kdei which is known as the Citadel of Chambers or the Citadel of Monks’ Cells. This Buddhist temple is located nearby Ta Prohm and is another popular temple on the trail.

Day 2

On the second day of this tour, you’ll see the best that the Angkor Archaeological Park has to offer. We’ll start the tour with a visit to Angkor Wat, the reason why most people come to visit Siem Reap. Angkor Wat attracts over 2 millions visitors per year and is the largest temple built during the Khmer empire.

After exploring the massive Angkor Wat, we’ll head over to Preah Khan. Which is another 12th century temple built by the famous king Jayavarman VII. Unlike many other temples, Preah Khan has been left to the elements. It’s been made safe for visitors, but very little restoration work has taken place here.

Finally, we will visit the majestic Bayon temple. This temple has remnants of Hindu inscriptions as well as both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhist incriptions. It’s a fascinating temple and usually a favourite of most visitors. We’ll spend a few hours exploring all the nooks and crannies of this amazing temple.

Amazing Tour!!! - Sam was a phenomenal guide! He managed all the details and made long, very hot days of temple visits feel special and informative! We couldn’t believe we were touring some temples almost alone, he really knew how to manage us away from the busier crowds which added a magical vibe to an already amazing place to visit. Highly recommend!!

The best way to see the temples! - My friends and I had the best time with Sam! He is SO knowledgeable about the history and context behind the temples and has the touring logistics down pat! He is very thoughtful about his approach to each temple and takes you on routes that avoid the crowds, especially within Angkor Wat. He is incredibly accommodating of every request. We loved talking to him and learning more about his life in Cambodia. His driver was also excellent as well. Our visit to Siem Reap would not have been as special if we had not had Sam as our guide.
