A brief drive will take us to Angkor Wat, renowned as Cambodia’s most breathtaking temple and the largest religious structure globally. Following this, we will explore numerous temples within the small circuit of the Angkor Archaeological Park.
Day 2: Kampong Phluk, Roluos Group
Guests will be picked up from their hotel in the morning to journey towards the Roluos group, situated approximately 13km from Siem Reap’s Pub Street. This was the first capital of the Khmer Empire, known as Hariharalaya. After King Jayavarman II established his capital on Mount Kulen in 802, he relocated to Hariharalaya, possibly for better food resources or defensive reasons.
The Roluos group features some of the earliest Khmer-built temples, marking the start of the classical period of Khmer civilization, dating back to the late 9th century. The Roluos temple group includes Bakong, Lolei, Preah Ko, and other smaller temples. Most structures in the Roluos group have towers constructed from bricks, with carved elements like columns, lintels, and decorative niches made from sandstone.
After visiting Angkor Wat, the journey continues beyond the Angkor archaeological sites to Kampong Phluk, located about 37km from Angkor Wat. Kampong Phluk is another floating village on the Tonle Sap Lake in Siem Reap. Visitors will gain insights into the local culture and the lives of those residing on the water.
The handmade houses are supported by 6-meter stilts to protect them from flooding during the rainy season. In the dry season, from December to April, motorbikes can navigate through the village. The village features clinics, pagodas, schools, restaurants, and churches, among other facilities. Besides exploring the village, visitors can also see the floating forest and wildlife. This must-see tour offers a relaxing experience while taking in the surroundings.
Day 3: Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Ta Som, East Mebon, Pre Rup, Banteay Samre, Banteay Srei, Kbal Spean
The tour will proceed out of Angkor Thom to visit Preah Khan, or the “Holy Sword” temple, which showcases the magnificent architectural style of the Khmer Empire.
