• Angkor Wat - Begin the day with a 4:30 AM departure from the hotel. Angkor Wat stands as the largest religious monument globally, showcasing the architectural genius of the Khmer civilization. Perfectly aligned with the cardinal points, this engineering marvel captivates all who visit and is arguably the world’s finest monument. Witness the equinox sunrise behind Angkor Wat’s towers, a renowned spot in Siem Reap for a breathtaking sunrise. The plan is to arrive early, position in front of the reflection pool, and hopefully capture the temple against the vibrant sky. After sunrise, a guided tour through the main building and complex is available, promising an unforgettable experience. Following this, return to the hotel for breakfast, and then explore the Angkor kingdom further.

• Beng Mealea - Post-refreshment, continue to Beng Mealea jungle temple to observe nature’s impact on Heritage Sites. This tour offers a unique experience away from crowds, showcasing the original ruins. Located northeast of Siem Reap city, Beng Mealea remains untouched by restoration, nestled within a dense forest. Its original ruins attract tourists, having been built by Khmer Kings Suriyavarman II and completed by Dharanindravarman II. Beng Mealea is also famous for its appearance in the Indiana Jones movie.

• Chau Srei Vibol - Chau Srei Vibol is a remote Hindu temple situated in local villages, known to only a few tourists but worth visiting. Located east of Siem Reap city on the ancient road from Angkor to Beng Mealea, it was originally built by King Suryavarman II to honor Hindu Gods. This sandstone temple features a beautiful landscape with a pool and a modern Buddhist temple, surrounded by mysterious stories.

• Roluos Temples - Roluos refers to a local community in Bakong District, Siem Reap, Cambodia, named after a thorny rainforest tree. For tourism, Roluos represents a group of Angkor temples, once the second-largest capital city of the Khmer Empire (805-905 A.D.). Despite many ruins, the main temples for tourists are Lolei, Preah Ko, and Bakong Temple, all impressive and worth exploring.

• Prasat Bakong - Bakong is the first Khmer temple mountain of sandstone, constructed by Khmer Empire rulers at Angkor, Cambodia. In the late 9th century AD, it served as the official state temple of King Indravarman I in the ancient city of Hariharalaya, now known as Roluos. In 802 AD, King Jayavarman II declared Cambodia’s sovereignty and established his capital at Hariharalaya. His successors later built Bakong as the first sandstone temple mountain at Angkor. The temple’s stele inscription (K.826) states that in 881, King Indravarman I dedicated it to Shiva, consecrating its central religious image, a lingam named Sri Indresvara, combining the king’s name with the suffix “-esvara” for Shiva. According to George Coedès, the devarāja cult involved the concept of divine kingship as a legitimacy of royal power.

• Lolei - Lolei is the northernmost temple of the Roluos group of three late 9th-century Hindu temples at Angkor, Cambodia, alongside Preah Ko and Bakong. Lolei was the last temple built in the city of Hariharalaya, flourishing at Roluos, and in 893, Khmer king Yasovarman I dedicated it to Shiva and the royal family. “Lolei” is believed to be a modern version of “Hariharalaya,” meaning “the city of Harihara.” Once an island temple, Lolei was located on an island north of the center in the now-dry Indratataka baray, nearly completed under Yasovarman’s father, Indravarman I. Scholars suggest the temple’s island location symbolically represented Mount Meru, home of the gods, surrounded by world oceans in Hindu mythology. Afterward, return to the hotel in Siem Reap.

• Preah Ko - Preah Ko, meaning “The Sacred Bull,” was the first temple built in the ancient city of Hariharalaya (now Roluos), about 15 kilometers southeast of Angkor’s main temples. Constructed under Khmer King Indravarman I in 879, it honors the king’s family, associating them with the Hindu deity Shiva. After founding the Khmer Empire in 802 A.D., King Jayavarman II established his capital at Hariharalaya, where he passed away. Indravarman I, Jayavarman II’s nephew, ascended the throne and ordered the construction of Preah Ko, dedicated in 879, followed by the Bakong temple-mountain. This building program likely resulted from the king’s peaceful reign and the expanding Empire’s income. The towers underwent restoration in the early 1990s, funded by the German government.
