In the morning, your journey will take you to a quaint temple of Banteay Srei, renowned for its intricate sculptures made of warm pink sandstone. This charming, small-sized temple is a late 10th-century creation and differs significantly from other temples in Angkor. Subsequently, we will visit the late 9th-century Hindu temples of Bakong, Lolei, and Preah Ko, which together form the renowned Rolous group situated 15km to the west of Siem Reap. Be prepared to explore the ancient capital of Angkor, with the pyramid-like Bakong — still surrounded by a moat filled with water — being the standout attraction.
In the afternoon, be ready to head out to Kompong Phluk, a traditional stilted village located at the edge of the vast Tonle Sap Lake. This is a place where Khmer, Vietnamese, and Cham communities coexist in harmony, adapting to the cyclical rise and fall of the lake’s water levels. An interesting tidbit: homes here usually come with both boats and motorbikes, as the lands turn into waterways during the monsoon season. The neighbourhood’s most visited spot is the intriguing Flooded Forest, which can only be reached by boat during the rainy season.
