• Banteay Srei - BANTEAY SREI is known by several nicknames, including “The Lady Temple,” “The Tiny Temple,” and “The Pink Temple.” It is considered one of the finest stone carving temples in the world.

This temple stands out because it was built using reddish-colored sandstone and is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, originally named ‘Tribhuvanamahesvara.’

Khmer King Rajendravarman II ascended to the throne at a young age in 944 CE. One of his gurus, Yajnavaraha, was given permission to construct a temple complex in a rural area on the outskirts of the capital, Yashodharapura. This area was later named ‘Ishwarapura,’ meaning ‘the city of Ishwara.’

It is believed that the smaller size of the temple was intentional to emphasize aesthetic perfection. The hardness of the sandstone has allowed the temple to maintain its sharpness and detail even after more than 1,000 years of natural erosion.
