• Battambang Provincial Hall - Originally a Battambang Provincial Hall and Royal Residence, it was built during the Thai occupation, designed by an Italian architect in 1905, and completed by the French in 1907. It resembles the Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Building in Mueang Prachin Buri, Thailand. During the colonial period, it served as a provincial hall and governor’s palace, later becoming a school. It functioned as Battambang’s provincial hall until 2005, but entry is not permitted.
• Hanging Bridge - Enjoy a delightful, bouncy walk across the Plov Thmey suspension bridge over the Sangkae River. Despite concerns about its sturdiness, motorcycles cross it daily. If a motorcycle approaches while crossing, continue walking. The bridge will shake more, but it is wide enough for two bikes. On the other side, the peaceful Kampong Pil Pagoda awaits.
• Rice Paper And Spring Roll Restaurant - Numerous villages near Battambang offer an excellent introduction to Cambodia’s rural heart. Some villages showcase traditional “rice paper” production, referring to the thin, translucent rice wrap for fresh spring rolls, not art paper. Known as the Kingdom’s rice bowl, the province has ample rice for making rice paper. Traditionally, locals used a steamer made from Cambodian buffalo skin, but now they use garment steamers to smooth rice bran over hot water.
• Battambang Central Market - This traditional market has roots in the French colonial era, developed in the 1930s by the French Public Works Department as a regional trade center. It began as a venue for local farmers and merchants to sell their products.
• Killing Caves Of Phnom Sampeau - The Killing Caves near Phnom Sampov are a poignant reminder of past events. The Khmer Rouge executed many people at the cave’s top, letting their bodies fall into the darkness below. Inside, there is a reclining gold Buddha and the remains of those who perished. An elderly man, who was a cook for the Khmer Rouge and thus spared, now maintains the monument, offering a touching reminder of his experiences.
• Battambang Bat Caves - Each evening, hundreds of tourists gather at sunset near Phnom Sampeau’s Killing Caves to witness a breathtaking natural event: the nightly exodus of a vast colony of wrinkle-lipped free-tailed bats. Most spectators gather at roadside bars and vendors offering food and drinks. Standing close to the swarm of bats is an exhilarating experience. The bats are too focused on catching insects to bother with people, but the swarm is so large and intense that it raises the temperature as they fly overhead. The bat exodus can take up to 20 minutes, and once they are out, it’s amazing to watch them speed across the sky, creating stunning visuals against the sunset.
• Krong Battambang - After a fulfilling day and the sunset, the return journey to Siem Reap begins, heading back to the hotel or preferred drop-off location. Depending on traffic, the journey may take longer. The group can request stops at any time, such as for restrooms, groceries, or meals, and every effort will be made to accommodate their needs.
