Preah Khan was erected on the site where Jayavarman VII triumphed over the invading Chams in 1191. Interestingly, the modern name, meaning “holy sword,” is derived from the original name—Nagara Jayasri (holy city of victory). - Neak Pean - Built around the same time as Preah Khan, Neak Pean offers a completely different experience. Situated in the center of the Northern Baray, this temple is essentially an island and is most striking during the wet season. The long, elevated wooden causeway leading to the temple is surrounded by water, with submerged tree trunks creating an eerie atmosphere. Originally designed for medical purposes, Neak Pean was believed to balance the elements in bathers, thus curing diseases. It is one of the many hospitals built by Jayavarman VII and is based on the ancient Hindu concept of balance. Four interconnected pools represent Water, Earth, Fire, and Wind. Return to hotel.
