After breakfast at the hotel, take a tour of Bantey Srei, The Gem of Yajnavaraha. By the 10th century, Khmer builders had advanced to the point of evaluating their past and engaging in a calculated, elegant reversion to older styles, earning this temple the nickname ‘the jewel of Khmer art’. The walls of Bantey Srei, fashioned from distinctively pink-colored sandstone, are profusely adorned with exquisite deep carvings that lend it a mystical atmosphere. Following the temple tour, our journey will proceed to Kbal Spean, a 42 km drive north of Siem Reap. A 30-minute climb through the rainforest unveils the stone carvings in the river bed of Kbal Spean. These sculptures of deities emerge from the water, symbolic of the aquatic primary chaos that embodies all life forms.
