Additional Information

An expert will present you in details of the process of production of the flowering plant, growing, harvesting, stem washing, extracting the fibers, spinning the yarn, dying and weaving the fabric. The Lotus Farm is a unique fair trade textile workshop in the world which manufactures lotus textiles while supporting vulnerable women. The textile is the most economical fabric in the world as it does not require any petrol, gas, electricity or any chemicals during all the process. Following a circular economy, the process uses a waste-lotus stem- and creates a new waste that is then transformed into a recycled paper. Indeed, you will also find that the lotus plant is used for its best value (lotus tea, lotus incense, lotus balm, lotus seeds mala necklace, recycled paper …).

Must do lotus fields! - I only booked this after hearing about it from another traveller, but it was actually an amazing experience. The boat trip through lotus fields was an especially great experience and I think it's a must do if visiting Siem Reap! The follow up of the various lotus craft activities was fun and very informative. The hosts at all parts of the tour were great. Had a great time here :)

Relaxing day on the lotus farm - A few weeks ago, we went on this amazing one day trip. First, we took a boat ride through the lotus fields. We stopped in the middle of the field to learn on how to fold lotus flowers and make a bouquet out of it. The views were breathtaking. After the boat ride, we got a tour around the farm. We learned a lot about the fabric, the process of making clothes and other objects… and even got to try it ourselves. We made bracelets, incense, paper… At the end of the day, they gave us all the things we made and even added some extras like tea and lotus beams. The women were very friendly and always welcomed us with a warm smile. We think the farm is a very nice initiative. We really recommend going on this tour. We had the best experience and it was a very relaxing activity.

A must do - This was money well spent, absolutely amazing experience, started off with a boat trip through the lotus farm, shown how to fold the petals and make a pretty bouquet 💐 then back to the workshop and shown how to make yarn, paper, incense sticks and a bracelet all using the entire lotus flower and stem, rounded off with lotus tea and Cambodian mooncakes. This enterprise focuses on providing employment for women in a calm and peaceful environment ❤

Magical flower experience - I recommend this activity! We learned so much about this intelligent flower, the explanation was interesting, the workshop activities were fun to do and the visit to the lotus field was just magical! Practical: you need your own transportation to the workshop place and to the the lotus fields.

Lotus farm boat trip and workshop - All of it was great but in particular the boat trip to collect the lotus flowers from the lake. It was also amazing to find out how versatile a plant the lotus is during the workshop and how every part of it can be used.

Most fabulous experience in Siem Reap - It was so exciting to visit the Lotus Farm!! Awen has created a magical center for textile creation and experimentation. Who knew that fiber could be created from the stems of the lotus flowers?? The setting is lovely - peaceful and serene - with the happy sound of young Cambodian women enjoying their work. The entire process from harvesting the flower stems, cleaning them, extracting the fiber, spinning it and finally weaving cloth all takes place in Awen's open outdoor studio. Viola! Flower to scarf. What could be more fascinating? Spending the afternoon at the Lotus farm was the highlight of my trip to Cambodia!!

Great experience - We spent 3 hours on this farm: discovery of the lotus, an incredible plant and its many derivatives. Very interesting explanation in French by the owner of the place. Ecological farm and social project (putting local women to work). Several nice workshops (and you can leave with your DIY crafts 😊), also the possibility of making some original purchases and drinking lotus tea overlooking a sublime view. Only downside: the boat tour in the lotus fields was taken with two Cambodians who did not speak a word of English and who did not speak to us. Beyond the fact that we learned nothing during this boat trip (and that we were eaten by mosquitoes, take your precautions), we were wondering what we were doing there because the two were chatting between them without paying any attention to us (we received flowers made by the woman while she was chatting), a bit of a shame but the rest was great.
