Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom & Taprohm
Angkor Wat - We’ll pick you up from your hotel and take you to visit Angkor Wat, initially a Hindu and later a Buddhist temple complex in Cambodia, known as the largest religious monument in the world. Constructed by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yasodharapura (modern-day Angkor), the capital of the Khmer Empire, it served as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Unlike previous kings who followed Shaivism, Angkor Wat was dedicated to Vishnu. It is the best-preserved temple at the site and has remained a significant religious center since its inception. The temple exemplifies the pinnacle of classical Khmer architecture and is a symbol of Cambodia, even appearing on the national flag.
Ta Prohm Temple - Next, we visit Ta Prohm (The Ancestor Brahma, Jungle Temple), enveloped in dense jungle. Ta Prohm exudes an ethereal and romantic atmosphere, with fig, banyan, and kapok trees spreading their massive roots over the stones, prying walls and terraces apart, while their branches and leaves form a canopy over the structures. Tree trunks twist among stone pillars, adding to the temple’s mystical charm.
Angkor Thom - After lunch, we head to Angkor Thom. On one side of the moat, 54 ‘devas’ (guardian gods) pull the head of the snake ‘Shesha,’ while on the other side, 54 ‘asuras’ (demon gods) pull the snake’s tail in the opposite direction. The Bayon temple, with over 200 large faces carved on its 54 towers, gives this temple its majestic character. The bas-reliefs depict everyday life scenes such as markets, fishing, festivals with cockfights and jugglers, as well as historical scenes with battles and processions. We also visit Baphuon, built in the mid-11th century (1060) by King Udayadityavarman II and dedicated to Shiva (Hindu), Phimean Akas, constructed in the late 10th to early 11th century by King Jayavarman V and Udayadityavarman I and dedicated to Hinduism, the Terrace of the Elephants, and the Terrace of the Leper King. Finally, we return to the hotel and drop you off.
Floating Village & Tonle Sap
Tonle Sap Lake - We’ll pick you up from your hotel and take you to visit Tonle Sap Lake and the floating village known as Chong Kneas. We take a boat to observe the authentic lifestyle of three communities—Cambodian, Cham, and Vietnamese—who have lived on the lake for a long time.
Artisans Angkor - We return to town to visit Les Artisans D’Angkor, a fine art school and workshop for wood and stone carving, lacquering, silver plating, and silk painting. Afterward, we drop you off at your hotel.
