- Tonle Sap Lake - Tonlé Sap is a lake in the northwest of Cambodia. Belonging to the Mekong River system, Tonlé is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and one of the most diverse and productive ecosystems in the world. It has been designated as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1997 due to its high biodiversity.
- Chong Kneas Floating Village - Chong Kneas is a must, but otherwise we’d recommend heading out a little further to see some of the less visited floating communities or stilted villages. Several communities of people are living on the Tonle Sap Lake. Four main villages are accessible from Siem Reap and a variety of ways to get there. The villages:
- Kampong Phluk Floating Village - Before the Khmer Rouge, Kompong Phluk was not an organized village. Instead, it was a collection of fishermen and their families who lived near the lake. This community existed until the Khmer Rouge arrived in Siem Reap in 1975. These soldiers burned down floating village homes and moved families to central work sites.
- Floating village - Our tours take guests to Kompong Khleang, the largest floating village in Siem Reap province. Located about 55km outside of the city, the villages are home to over 10,000 people, many of whom have been living here for generations. Most of the villages remain stationary during the monsoon season but move to deeper waters during the dry season when water levels are significantly lower.
