Authentic Albanian cooking class - This was an authentic Albanian cooking class that took place in a family restaurant kitchen. Everyone was so kind and so happy to share their craft with us. We enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner that evening!!

A Must If You Like Food and Learning! 10/10 Experience! - This cooking class was easily the best thing we did in Albania. A run down of the class: We arrived at the Mendra Traditional Restaurant around noon, and were greeted by the grandson of the chef, who would be our interpreter for the day. He gave us some traditional cherry juice and asked us to pick which pie we'd like to make. Then his grandma (the chef) showed us how to make the dough and filling from scratch! As the dough was proofing, we went into the kitchen to learn how to make the fillings and 2 other appetizers. After we made the appetizers, we learned the traditional method of rolling out the dough (thinly!) and then built our pies. Once the pies were in the oven, we were asked to sit in the restaurant area and were given the option of different drinks (all a part of the experience!), and then the head chef came out and gave us our pies. She was such a delight, and the food was DELICIOUS. My partner made the cottage cheese/leek one, and I got the mussel one. Over all we were there for about 3 hours, and made 4 different dishes. I'd 100% recommend this class as a way to really start understanding Albania and their traditional cuisine. Also, try the local wine because it's the perfect companion to these delicious, savory dishes!
