- Ancient City of Ephesus - Ephesus was a significant Greek and Roman city located in present-day Turkey. Once a major port city on the Aegean Sea, it played a crucial role in the ancient world. The city’s history dates back to the 10th century BCE, gaining prominence during the Classical Greek period. Ephesus was vital in ancient trade routes and became a major center for the worship of the goddess Artemis.
- The Temple of Artemis - The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was situated in Ephesus. This magnificent structure was dedicated to the goddess Artemis and was funded by Croesus of Lydia. Unfortunately, only a few remnants of the temple remain today.
- Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House) - The House of the Virgin Mary, or Meryemana in Turkish, is a religious and pilgrimage site near Ephesus, in modern-day Turkey. According to Catholic and Orthodox tradition, it is believed that the Virgin Mary spent her final years here after Jesus Christ’s death. Although the Bible does not explicitly mention Mary’s house in Ephesus, some scholars refer to biblical passages suggesting Mary lived with the Apostle John in Ephesus. The site gained recognition in the 19th century following the visions of a German nun, Anne Catherine Emmerich, who described the location of Mary’s house in Ephesus. This led to the discovery of a small stone house, later identified as the House of the Virgin Mary.
