• The Basilica of Saint John - In the early A.D., Evangelist St. John resided in Ephesus to spread Christianity and gather more followers of Jesus. According to many sources, he died near Ephesus after returning from exile in Patmos and was buried on the southern slope of Ayosolug Hill by his disciples. Roman Emperor Justinian constructed one of the largest Basilicas of Christianity in the 4th Century A.D. over the burial site of St. John the Evangelist!
• The Temple of Artemis - Artemis was the Greek goddess, the virginal huntress and twin of Apollo, who replaced the Titan Selene as Goddess of the Moon.

The ancient temple, built around 650 BC for the cult of Artemis, was constructed on a site already sacred to the Anatolian Mother Goddess, Cybele. The temple was financed by the wealthy king of Lydia, and the marshy ground was chosen as a precaution against future earthquakes.

Over time, it has been destroyed and collapsed multiple times due to natural disasters.
