Kusadasi Castle - Güvercinada Fortress, situated in the Hacıfeyzullah District of Kuşadası City, was constructed at the harbor’s mouth for protection. The island features an inner fortress built by Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha and fortress walls constructed by İlyas Aga. These walls were erected to defend against anticipated attacks from Greek islanders and the sea during the Mora Revolt period. Stones for the fortress were transported from Yılancı Cape. The castle’s architecture is pentagonal, and an inscription is found at its entrance. Known as the Pirate Castle during the Ottoman period, it served as a police station against pirates. The tower at the island’s highest point was used by guards on watch. Güvercinada, an icon of Kuşadası, is registered as a “monumental work” and is a significant cultural and historical site. The area within the castle is a 1st degree Archaeological Site.
