We kick off our journey with a visit to one of Malaysia’s most majestic locations, the Batu Caves. Resting upon a holy hill, this cascading collection of caverns and corridors is the most renowned Hindu shrine outside of India. The Cathedral Cave, as the biggest and most visited cave in Batu Caves, shelters a variety of Hindu shrines under its towering 100-meter-tall vaulted roof. At the base of the hill, you’ll find two additional cave temples, the Art Gallery Cave and the Museum Cave. The Batu Caves serve as the centerpiece of the yearly Hindu Thaipusam festival.
Subsequent to that, we move to our next point of interest which was founded in 1974 and is one of the earliest batik and handicraft centers in Klang Valley. Located in the Gombak district, it’s a mere stone’s throw away from the Batu Caves. Here at the gallery, you’ll discover that batik is much more than just a fabric with intricate designs. For a comprehensive introduction to Malaysian batik and handicrafts, Syarika East Coast is a must-visit.
