Highlights
  • FRIM -Forest Research Institute of Malaysia - Tours commence at approximately 09:00 am and 02:00 pm for private groups, and at 09:00 am for Seat in Coach, with hotel pickup available from selected hotels around Kuala Lumpur city. The journey to the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) takes about 1 hour.

On the way, you’ll pass through typical Malay villages and see friendly locals going about their daily activities.

Upon arrival at the forest institute, you’ll meet your nature trekking guide. An introduction to the site and activities will be provided before starting the jungle trek. Please wear suitable attire for this activity.

As you enter the trekking trails, you’ll be captivated by the arboretums, or living museums of trees. Walk along the various nature trails and discover the diverse species of flora and fauna.

One highlight is the “puzzle-like” pattern of individual tree crowns separated by gaps and outlined against the sky, a phenomenon known as “Crown Shyness.” This occurs because the leaf tips of the Dryobalanops aromatica tree appear to avoid touching each other, creating gaps.

This tree, also known as the kapur tree, produces a fragrant exudate called camphor, which is a key ingredient in ointments used for stomach massages after childbirth.

After about an hour of exploring and learning, you’ll head back to the hotel.

  • Batu Caves - Batu Caves is a limestone hill featuring a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor. The limestone forming Batu Caves is estimated to be around 400 million years old. Some cave entrances were historically used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan people, a tribe of Orang Asli.

The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of the Thaipusam festival in Malaysia.

Batu Caves is also known as the 10th Cave or Hill of Lord Murugan, as there are six significant holy shrines in India and four in Malaysia. The other three in Malaysia are Kallumalai Temple in Ipoh, Tanneermalai Temple in Penang, and Sannasimalai Temple in Malacca.
