Historical Malacca - The coach was fantastic! Roomy seats, great aircon, comfortable drive! Special mention to our tour guide; Alan Coomalan and his buddy Charles. Alan lead us very well, sharing a lot of historical information about the special places we visited. Be advised- there are a few stairs to climb up to St Paul’s, but it’s worth the effort. Alan didn’t go too fast or too slow- catered well for our group! Finally, the Malaysian meal we get for lunch was simple, but delicious! The restaurant service was just beautiful. Thanks to our Coach captain; Ravi Kumar who got us to our destinations safely. Thanks again for a great trip! Well worthwhile 🤩.

What have they done to Malaca - Has been declared a world heritage site, the history is still there, but they have turned the whole place into "Tacky Town " still worth the tour for the historical site's

Decent but lacking - The tour was good but the tour lacked something. There was an overemphasis on places of worship and not enough of other things - such as spending time in chinatown as part of the formal tour. The tour guide was quite competent but unfortunately, when I told her o was American, she started in in an anti-Biden and anti-Israel diatribe, which I thought was wholly inappropriate. I didn’t appreciate that at all.

Arrogant guide, average city. - Malacca is supposedly a UNESCO world heritage site. However, it is poorly maintained and is only average if you have visited other such similar sites (Europe/other Asian). Dirty streets, stinking drains, polluted river, a handful of old ruins welcome you to the town. Give it a miss unless you’ve plenty of time in Malaysia to waste away an entire day. As for the tours, we had an arrogant sadistic old man, Douglas, as our guide. Personally, he was fine with us but was pathetically rude with some fellow travellers and persistently belittled them with his subtle micro aggression and criticisms. The fellow travellers were barely bothering him or causing any disruptions, yet the guide appeared to take pleasure from criticising them repeatedly and demeaning their innocent behaviour. An old couple, unaware, tried to walk into a practising church where Sunday prayers were in progress. They were kindly stopped by the security and advised entry was restricted as it was a Sunday. The guide had previously warned that travellers ‘may not’ be allowed to enter on account of the Sunday mass. He was therefore visibly annoyed that his words were disrespected, and when back on the bus mentioned if everyone understood English, we should follow his instructions and not apparently ‘embarrass’ him in any manner. There was absolutely no drama at the church or any chaos for the guide to take such personal offence. He simply was impatient and frustrated. Another incident that shocked us must also be mentioned. Douglas offered us disposable ponchos as there was prediction of heavy rains. A young man politely declined it, perhaps he wasn’t expecting a downpour. It unfortunately did rain heavy after and despite the ponchos, we got soaked. The young man was drenched heavily. Douglas turned to him and quoted ‘Young man, you act like you know everything but clearly you do not!!’ Douglas appeared to have taken offence to his declined offer of ponchos and thereafter, subconsciously, felt happy the boy was drenched on account of his previous action. Douglas also mentioned how he disliked travelers post the pandemic and was now apparently on a soft retirement. I believe he must now retire! He has no attributes of a tour guide- is unkind, arrogant, impatient and visibly narcissistic in his arrogant speech and manners. Unless he changes, he is not an asset and must most definitely leave this job.
