The Islamic Arts Museum (IAMM) is one of Malaysia’s premier museums, housing over 7,000 high-quality artifacts from across the Islamic world. The gallery features exquisite examples of Islamic architecture from Africa to the Far East. Highlights include models of the Taj Mahal, unique mosque designs from various countries, and a large-scale model of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca.
Natural motifs such as plants, fruits, and clouds are incorporated into local arts like textiles. The museum also showcases wood carvings, metal handicrafts, and kris designs. Chinese and Islamic influences merge to create stunning artworks, including cloisonné wares and calligraphic scrolls. The collection includes complete costumes from across the Islamic world, as well as fine wall coverings and rugs.
- Istana Negara - ISTANA NEGARA (NATIONAL PALACE)
Istana Negara, or the National Palace, is the official residence of the King of Malaysia. This grand structure on Jalan Duta became the National Palace in 2011, replacing the old palace on Jalan Istana. Spanning 97.65 hectares, the palace features traditional Malay design and Islamic artwork created by renowned sculptors from Terengganu and Kelantan. The palace is adorned with 22 domes, the largest of which stands 44 meters tall.
- National Monument - Now we begin a free city tour to TUGU NEGARA (NATIONAL MONUMENT), SULTAN ABDUL SAMAD BUILDING, ISTANA NEGARA (NATIONAL PALACE), and DATARAN MERDEKA (MERDEKA SQUARE).
TUGU NEGARA (NATIONAL MONUMENT)
Overlooking the KL Lake Gardens, this massive bronze monument honors the soldiers who sacrificed their lives defending the country during the Communist Insurgency in the 1950s. The National Monument was designed by Felix de Weldon, the architect behind the famous Iwo Jima Memorial.
- Sultan Abdul Samad Building - SULTAN ABDUL SAMAD BUILDING
The Sultan Abdul Samad Building is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 1897, it was considered the finest building in the Malay states. It features an impressive porch, elegant horseshoe-shaped arches, gleaming copper domes, and a 41.2-meter clock tower. The ground floor houses a Tourist Information Centre.
- Merdeka Square - DATARAN MERDEKA (MERDEKA SQUARE)
Dataran Merdeka is one of the city’s most significant heritage sites. The Union Jack was lowered here to mark Malaysia’s independence from colonial rule, giving the square its name, which means ‘Independence Square.’
At the end of the tour, you’ll be returned to your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle.
