In 1968, a new structure was built, showcasing the ornate ‘Raja Gopuram’ tower in the style of South Indian temples.
• Thean Hou Temple - The Thean Hou Temple is a six-tiered temple dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu, located in Kuala Lumpur. Situated on 1.67 acres (6,758 m2) of land atop Robson Heights on Lorong Bellamy, it overlooks Jalan Syed Putra. Completed in 1987 and officially opened in 1989, the temple was built by Hainanese residents in Malaysia. It is one of the largest temples in Southeast Asia.
• Little India Brickfields - Brickfields began as the center of brick-making in the late 19th century, following a massive fire and flood that swept through Kuala Lumpur in 1881. These twin disasters destroyed the town’s wooden and thatched structures. Sir Frank Swettenham, the British Resident at the time, responded by mandating the use of brick and tile in building construction, thus giving the town its purpose.
• Batu Caves - Batu Caves is an iconic and popular tourist attraction in Selangor. Home to a Hindu temple and shrine, Batu Caves draws thousands of worshippers and tourists, especially during the annual Hindu festival, Thaipusam. Located just north of Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves features three main caves with temples and Hindu shrines. Its main attraction is the large statue of a Hindu god at the entrance, along with a steep 272-step climb to view the stunning city skyline. Monkeys frolic around the caves, making it a popular spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. Paintings and scenes of Hindu gods can also be seen in the Ramayana Cave.

The Visitor Centre is located in Setapak Jaya, just 20 minutes from Kuala Lumpur city centre. A modern glass-clad foyer set within scenic lush landscaping greets visitors upon arrival, along with Royal Selangor’s Giant Tankard. Recognized as the world’s largest by the Guinness World Records, the giant tankard offers one of many perfect photo opportunities at the Centre.
• East Coast Batik Sdn Bhd (Batik CHONG) - Established in 1974, East Coast Batik (formerly Syarikat East Coast) is one of the oldest batik and handicrafts centers in Klang Valley. Located in the Gombak district, just a stone’s throw from Batu Caves, the gallery offers a holistic experience in Malaysian batik and handicrafts.
• National Monument - The National Monument was built to honor those who sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom, particularly during the nation’s struggle against communism. The grounds feature one of the world’s largest free-standing bronze sculptures, sculpted in 1966 by Felix de Weldon, who also created the famous Iwo Jima monument in Washington, DC.
• Istana Negara - Istana Negara, or the National Palace, is the official residence of the King of Malaysia. This majestic building on Jalan Duta became the National Palace in November 2011, replacing the old palace on Jalan Istana. It has 22 domes, with the largest dome reaching up to 40 meters. Note: Visits are limited to the exterior.
• National Mosque (Masjid Negara) - Masjid Negara is one of the city’s most distinguished landmarks, featuring a unique star-shaped dome and a 73-meter high minaret. Located near the KL Lake Gardens, visitors are advised to dress appropriately when visiting the mosque, with women required to wear headscarves.
• The River of Life - The River of Life is a notable attraction in Kuala Lumpur, located near the Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, the city’s oldest mosque. It is the convergence point of the Klang River and the Gombak River.
• Kuala Lumpur City Gallery - Founded in 1989, KL City Gallery occupies a building that has seen various uses and occupants since it ceased to be a printing office. Tenants have included the Ministry of Labour and the Postal Authorities. The building features two floors of exhibition space, a cafe, a museum shop, and serves as a tourist information center.

This historic site is where the Union Flag was lowered, and the Malayan flag was raised for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957.
