Get to know Kuala Selangor’s fireflies:
The firefly is an insect belonging to the beetle family, with the ‘Pteroptyx tener’ species being the most prevalent in Kuala Selangor and measuring around 5mm. During the darkness of the night, these minuscule creatures gather on berembang trees (Sonneratia caseolaris), a variety of mangrove that naturally flourishes in the brackish waters of the Selangor River’s banks.
- A moderate amount of walking is involved; comfortable walking shoes and insect repellent are recommended
- Boat tour conducted with Basic English speaking rider (no worry this will be locally local)
- Dinner is Not Included and our driver can guide you to the best restaurant as per your budget and choice.
- What to bring – Sport shoes or shoes with rubber soles are recommended when visiting. Also remember to pack plenty of mosquito repellent.
- Flash photography is strictly prohibited as this may interfere with the fireflies, who communicate by emitting lights from their abdomen.
