With the cuisine of Malaysia being a delicious fusion of Malay, Indian, and Chinese influences, it’s no surprise that the food here is intensely flavourful and diverse.
Our meeting spot will be in the still-preserved old districts of Chow Kit and Kampung Baru, the few areas of the city that have resisted the encroachment of the modern skyscrapers.
We won’t have many tourists around. We’ll explore the intricate pathways tasting over 14 uniquely prepared dishes selected by a Kuala Lumpur chef for their taste and significance in local culinary history.
Seasonal variations in flavour will occur, but standouts include the aromatic serving of laksa, hand-pulled rotis, nasi lemak paired with spicy sambal and medicinal chicken rendang, charcoal-broiled mackerel and cooling iced cendol topped with durian that has a custard-like texture. Our gastronomical journey will conclude with a grand view of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.
Although it might seem your plate is overflowing already, consider this: you could choose to embark on this food discovery on your own, but it would be less fulfilling without my guidance on this movable feast of flavors.
