Additional Information

With a mix of cultural influences on the nation’s cuisine, it’s no wonder that Malaysian food is a lip-smackingly complex beast.

We’ll meet in the old district of Chow Kit and Kampung Baru, one of the last remaining districts that is yet to be developed into glassy high rises.

Don’t expect other foreigners. Stroll in this local neighbourhood of nightly street eats, sampling a variety of 15+ tastings, carefully curated for their culinary history.

The flavours change across the year, but highlights include the fragrant bowls of laksa, hand stretched rotis, nasi lemak with piquant sambal and herbal chicken rendang, charcoal-grilled mackerel, and soothing iced cendol with custard-like durian. We’ll end with a fine view of the mighty Petronas Twin Towers.

I’m sure you have a lot of your plate, but here’s some food for thought. While it’s possible to attempt such a culinary marathon yourself, you’d be one sandwich short of a Malaysian picnic not to join me on our moveable food feast.

Great food tour - Nadia was an amazing guide. She showed us the ingredients in standalone form before then tasting them as part of the many dishes. Highly recommend.

Great way to meet KL - Kiran was fantastic and this was one of the best food tours I have ever attended! She shared her knowledge freely, explained all the foods, made sure we knew what we were getting in to with Durian and was a real pleasure to spend the evening with. This was the antithesis of a tourist area, and I say that in the best way possible. I loved eating our way through a local area, absolutely bustling with people out for a meal and shopping. Go ahead and book, you will not be disappointed.

Great food tour - Kiran our guide was amazing. We went to a lot of street vendors that we wouldn't have necessarily found or tried had we not been with her! The food was incredible and Kiran was so knowledgeable about the different influences and areas of the city. Would highly recommend doing the tour at the start of your visit to KL so that you know what and where to eat for the rest of your stay. Thanks Kiran!

A Real Taste Of Malaysia - Searching for a food tour in KL, A Chef's Tour was consistently rated the highest, and now we know why. Kiran was an incredible host, teaching us all about her hometown of KL through a series of local dishes and desserts. Believe me when I say you won't be disappointed with the quality and quantity of food this tour has in store. The only bad thing about the experience was that I couldn't fit everything in my stomach! If you're taking a trip to Malaysia's capital and are considering a food tour, I'd highly recommend doing this as soon as you land. It'll give you a great idea of the city's layout as well as some of the best places to eat during your stay.

Great tour of traditional street food. - This tour was an exactly what we wanted for Kuala Lumpur. We went to places we never would have visited on our own and ate food we never would have known to order on the street or in a restaurant. These are not glamour locations, but the vendors are friendly and clearly accustomed to having foreigners try their food. Making our own ‘flying bread’ was an amusing highlight as none of us quite mastered the technique, but the end result was tasty. Steven was a great guide who provided lots of good background and techniques for opening unfamiliar fruit and eating lots of different food. Definitely go hungry.

Perfect for the first day - Based on recommendations from the internet, we did the tour on our first day so that we knew what food we should eat on holiday. The tour with Stephen was very informative and fun. There was also so much food that everyone was more than full and could have eaten a lot more if we had wanted to. I can only recommend it to everyone.
