- Sarawak Cultural Village - One of Malaysia’s most renowned and iconic cultural attractions, Sarawak Cultural Village is an award-winning living museum that offers an engaging and educational introduction to local cultures and lifestyles. The village features nine authentic replica buildings representing every major ethnic group in Sarawak, including Bidayuh, Iban, and Orang Ulu longhouses, a Penan jungle settlement, a Melanau tall-house, a Malay town house, and a Chinese farmhouse and pagoda. Each building is staffed by members of the respective ethnic groups, dressed in traditional attire and performing traditional activities. Every house has a “storyteller” who is an expert in explaining and interpreting traditional cultures and lifestyles.
After exploring the village, visitors can enjoy a multi-cultural dance performance in the village’s theatre or participate in dance, music, and craft lessons. There is also an excellent ethnic restaurant and a handicrafts shop on-site.
- Matang Wildlife Centre - Matang is not a zoo. It is a dedicated centre where endangered species, such as orangutans, are rehabilitated and released back into the forest. Most of these animals were confiscated from individuals who illegally kept them as pets and need to learn how to survive in the wild. While they are being rehabilitated, they remain at the centre, allowing visitors to get close to animals they might not encounter even after days of exploring the jungle.
Matang offers more than just animal encounters. Visitors can enjoy a series of rock pools, a swimming area, picnic spots, camping sites, scenic nature trails, three waterfalls, a viewing area, and enclosures for observing semi-wild animals. Various eco-tourism projects are also underway at Matang Wildlife Centre, such as the Heart to Heart with Orangutan program and the Orangutan Junior Program.
