Unveiling the Mysteries of Kekova and Demre: A Family Adventure
Drawn by the allure of history and the promise of adventure, we embarked on the Kekova and Demre tour, eager to explore the sunken city and ancient ruins. Join us as we dive into a day filled with breathtaking sights, culinary delights, and unforgettable family moments.
Setting Sail on a Journey Through Time
Our adventure began in the charming town of Olympos, where we were picked up in a comfortable 14-seater vehicle. The anticipation was palpable as we made our way to Demre harbor, the starting point of our nautical journey. As a family, we have always been drawn to historical sites, and the promise of exploring the sunken city of Kekova was too enticing to resist.
The boat, a traditional wooden vessel, was ours for the day, and it felt like stepping back in time. The gentle rocking of the boat and the salty breeze set the perfect stage for our exploration. As we cruised along the coast, the ruins of the ancient city of Dolchiste came into view, submerged beneath the crystal-clear waters. The kids were fascinated by the idea of a city lost to the sea, and their imaginations ran wild with stories of ancient civilizations.
Our first stop was the Castle of Simena, perched high above the sea. The hike up the hillside was invigorating, and the panoramic views from the top were nothing short of breathtaking. The kids enjoyed exploring the castle ruins and the necropolis, while my wife and I marveled at the history that surrounded us. It was a perfect blend of education and adventure, a hallmark of our family travels.
A Feast for the Senses
After our exploration of Simena, we set sail once more, this time heading towards Esmeralda Bay. The turquoise waters were inviting, and we couldn’t resist taking a dip. Swimming in such a stunning setting was a highlight for the whole family, and it was a joy to see the kids laughing and playing in the water.
Lunch was served on the boat, and it was nothing short of a culinary delight. The chef, whose skills were evident in every dish, prepared a feast that was both delicious and satisfying. Freshly caught fish, vibrant salads, and traditional Turkish dishes filled the table, and we savored every bite. It was a meal that not only nourished our bodies but also connected us to the local culture and traditions.
As we continued our journey, we stopped at Karemlik Bay, where we had the chance to spot sea turtles in their natural habitat. The kids were thrilled to see these majestic creatures up close, and it was a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural world. It was a day filled with wonder and discovery, and it left a lasting impression on all of us.
Stepping Back in Time
Our final stop was the ancient city of Myra, a place steeped in history and intrigue. The rock-cut tombs and the Roman-style theatre were awe-inspiring, and it was easy to imagine the lives of those who once called this place home. The kids were particularly fascinated by the stories of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of children, whose church we visited in Demre.
The Santa Claus Museum was a delightful surprise, and it added a touch of whimsy to our historical exploration. The kids loved learning about the origins of Santa Claus, and it was a fitting end to our day of adventure.
As we made our way back to Olympos, I reflected on the day’s experiences. The Kekova and Demre tour had been a perfect blend of history, nature, and culture, and it had provided our family with memories that would last a lifetime. It was a reminder of why we travel, to connect with the past, to explore the present, and to create a future filled with wonder and discovery.
