In the morning, the driver and tour guide will collect guests from their hotel (within Kunming’s second ring road) and head to the Western Hills. Here, cultural temples blend with natural cliffs, Taoist grottoes, flowers, and forests. Walking through the stone corridor carved into the cliff face, one can truly appreciate the challenging and dangerous work it took to construct these marvels. Visitors can explore a large Taoist Grotto near the renowned Dragon Gate and enjoy a sweeping panoramic view of Kunming from the mountain top.
In the afternoon, the itinerary includes a visit to the Dounan Flower Market, the largest fresh flower trading market in China. With over 500 flower shops offering 66 categories of flowers, the market trades 5 to 6 million flowers across more than 300 varieties daily. Over 280 tons of fresh flowers are exported worldwide by road, train, or plane. Flowers here are also significantly cheaper than in other parts of China. At the market, visitors can learn to arrange seasonal flowers and might even discover a hidden talent. The day concludes with a drive back to Kunming.
