Xishan Mountain - Welcome to Kunming, Yunnan!
In the morning, your driver and tour guide will pick you up at your hotel (within the second ring road of Kunming) and drive you to the Western Hills. It is one of the most popular places for local people to spend their weekends especially on the 3rd of March of the lunar calendar, Kunming locals will climb the western hill together to enjoy happy times and pray for good fortune for the year to come. In the forest park you can breathe fresh air during the climb. Our hike begins from Longmen Village the foot of the Western Hill, (sometimes there is a small morning market we can visit). We will take a break at Huating Temple, which was dated back to the period of the Dali Kingdom and has many well-preserved Buddhist classics. Then we will move on towards Taihua Old Road, a tranquil road which leads to a village that goes back to the main road were be catch a bus back down. At the end of the day we will go back to our meeting point in Kunming city.

Our trail journey begins in Kunming, the heart of Yunnan province and a city rich in history and culture. It’s often referred to as the “Spring City” by locals due to its year-round spring-like weather. We’ll spend the day traversing the Western hills, navigating through forests and narrow trails, offering a glimpse into the everyday life of locals during the weekends. This guided nature walk lets you breathe in the brisk mountain air, take in the sweeping views of Dianchi Lake and the cityscape of Kunming and learn about the historical significance of the Western hills.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: to register your tour legally with the local authorities, we need your passport information as mentioned below. We will contact you by message via TripAdvisor. Until we received your reply with your passport information, we will NOT start arranging your tour. We are not responsible if we cannot arrange a tour guide, private transportation or hotel due to the customer’s own late reply or lack thereof (for example during national holidays or high season). - The daily working time for driver and tour guide during this tour is maximum 10 hours per day. Overtime working hours will be charged extra.
- Tipping drivers and tour guides is custom in China. We recommend giving 2 – 3 USD per person per day to the driver and 4 – 5 USD per person per day to your tour guide.
- Please only bring one small and handy day pack / hand luggage per person. Larger suitcases or backpacks cannot be taken on this day trip.
