Kunming-Stone Forest- Yuanyang(L)

Yunnan Stone Forest Geological Park - Meet your private guide in the hotel’s lobby in Kunming and head directly to Yunnan Stone Forest Geological Park, a journey of about 1.5 hours. During the drive, your tour guide will share related stories, and you are welcome to ask any questions. The Yunnan Stone Forest Geological Park, also known as Kunming Stone Forest, features an impressive array of limestone formations and is a prime example of southern China’s karst landscape. Since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it has been hailed as the ‘First Wonder of the World.’ Around 270 million years ago, during the Carboniferous period of the Paleozoic era, the area was a vast sea. Over time, tectonic movements caused the sea to recede and the limestone landscape to emerge. Continuous erosion by natural elements has shaped the area into its current form. The park is a vast natural gallery; upon arrival, follow your tour guide to explore and use your imagination to uncover its wonders. Your guide will share many legendary stories and show you the best spots for photos. You will spend 2 hours visiting both the Big Stone Forest Area and the Small Stone Forest Area.

Yuanyang Rice Terraces - Next, board your private vehicle and head to Yuanyang Rice Terraces, a 4-hour drive. Relax and enjoy the scenery along the way.

Yuanyang is famous for its rice terraces, considered the world’s largest and most spectacular, created by the Hani people over a thousand years ago and still in use today. The rice farmers practiced ecology and land preservation long before these concepts were globally recognized. Known as ‘land sculpture,’ the terraced fields have been officially recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site.

Bada Terrace - Upon arrival, choose the sites that interest you the most and set off to explore. Typically, you will start from Qingkou Village, a key area in the World Culture Heritage Site designation. It maintains a complete ecosystem of four elements: forests, water systems, mountain villages, and terraces. Follow your tour guide to explore their Mushroom House and learn about the Hani people’s distinctive national culture, unique production methods, and lifestyle.

Spend the rest of the day at Bada Terrace, the largest attraction in terms of acreage in the Yuanyang Terraces and known for its stunning sunset views.

Afterwards, you will be transferred to your hotel in Yuanyang.
