An Ornamental Staircase and an Elephant's Belly !!! - This tour is totally off the beaten path. Though not as tall as SIGIRIYA, The climb to YAPAHUWA is also a bit tough. HaththiKuchchi literally means the Belly of an Elephant- so named because the rock there resembles the belly of an elephant. Like all other Buddhist monasteries Haththikuchchi has caves and water streams going through the caves and ledges at the top to prevent rainwater entering the caves.
