Tour and transfer combined - With this tour from Kutaisi I was able to combine a transfer to Tbilisi perfectly. As agreed, Salome was already waiting for me at McDonald's in the morning and greeted me very warmly. After a short time the other participants who were starting from Tbilisi arrived and we were ready to go. Salome created a very pleasant and friendly but still very professional and informative atmosphere. We were a small group and everything was very uncomplicated and we were looked after very well, from the very attentive "photo shoots" by Salome to charging our cell phones, and the hospitality at lunch was also very good, and of course not to forget all the information she gave us. All in all it was a great day with very nice memories that I will take with me :) Thank you!!

Fabulous guide, but 10hrs+ in van - So, good things first: Tango, our guide, was amazing. It takes a special kind of person to do this kind of work and to do it well. He was patient, flexible, attentive, and communicative. At every turn, his welcoming, bright spirit and fabulous sense of humor illuminated an otherwise extremely long and exhausting day. He did his absolute best with what he had to work with and for that we were all extremely grateful. This tour company is so, so lucky to have him. Now, for the helpful information which is NOT in the tour description: The canyon boating is, hilariously, only 15 minutes of a 15 hour day. (As additional comedy, throughout the 15min boat ride, know that there will be a guy steering from the back, yelling, “let’s go! Let’s go!” at you while you row.) The rest of the day is mostly spent waiting in long lines or sitting on long drives. On the day we went, the Georgian schools had just released, so both the caves and the canyons were absolutely packed with hundreds of people - mostly kids. When you sign up for a full-day tour, you are also at the mercy of the tour company to choose when you eat, where you go, etc. The restaurant they take you is called Old Marani was a bit pricy and unremarkable. For most people on the trip, it’s a 7hrs from the pick-up in Tbilisi until eating lunch around 1:30. No water or snacks are provided. That’s a long time for most people! Here’s the actual breakdown of the timings: 7:00-10:45 - drive from Tbilisi to Kutaisi 10:50-11:20 - drive to Prometheus Cave 11:20-11:40 - wait in line 11:40-12:40 - walk through caves 12:40-13:00 - take bus or walk to tour bus 13:00-13:15 - drive to restaurant 13:30-14:30 - eat lunch 14:30-15:30 - drive to Martvili canyon 15:30-16:20 - wait in line 16:20-16:35 - boat ride 16:35-17:15 - walk around canyon boardwalk 17:15-19:00 - drive to highway rest stop (Subway, Dunkin Donuts, Wendy’s are your options for dinner) 19:15-22:00 - drive to Tbilisi All in all, it’s about 10 hours in the van and about 2 hours of activities. I’m sure if you go on a weekday, the lines will be significantly shorter than what we experienced. So if that’s what you want to sign up for, go for it! It’s still a much more interesting story than sitting in a hotel room, of course. As a traveler, I do feel a moral responsibility to let other travelers know what to honestly expect, so here are the facts! You can form your own opinions, but it’s good to be informed! 5 stars for the guide; 1 star for the trip.

Advertised with transfer to Tbilisi...Did not turn out as expected - We booked this tour on GetYourGuide, which was advertised with an option for transfer to Tbilisi after the tour. Of the 7 passengers in the bus, 4 of us had opted for the transfer. It turns out, when we ended the tour at Chiatura, we were told that rather than us driving 1.5h back to Kutaisi then another 3h to Tbilisi, it would make more sense for them to drop us off at the Chiatura local bus station, and for us to take a local bus straight to Tbilisi instead so we could avoid the 1.5h drive back. They then paid for our bus tickets and sent us on our way. It turned out to be a very uncomfortable and sweaty ride, no air-conditioning, with several stops along the way to drop off and pick up local passengers. Where we were dropped off in Tbilisi, we had to walk at least 200m to the metro and take several stops at the peak rush hour to reach the original advertised drop off location (Radisson Blu). This was frankly quite unacceptable, considering the fact that we had paid for the advertised transfer to Tbilisi. While the tour itself went okay and we had a lovely guide Ana, I consider this more of the company's fault for advertising this transfer without proper consideration of the logistics (if timing was an issue, they should have provided an alternative private onward transport to cater to the 2 different groups). Unless this logistical issue is settled for future tours, I would NOT recommend this option.
