Chiatura - Excursion to Katskhi / Chiatura
After Meeting Point at your hotel, we will go to the monastery of Katskhi in Chiatura. In the seventh century, monks built a monastery on top of a natural stone pillar outside of Chiatura. It was used by Christian ascetics who lived at the top of the pillar to express their devotion. This cult has now disappeared, but the monastery still exists. Visitors can reach the summit by climbing a 130-foot staircase. The Georgian monk has been living on the summit for almost 20 years. A staircase rising upward is called a ladder to the sky. Only men can climb the pole, and then in special cases.
A picnic in nature at a time, which will have the opportunity to roast shish kebabs and drink red wine.

In the 7th century, a group of monks established a monastery atop a natural rock stack near Chiatura. It served as a dwelling for Christian hermits who resided at its peak to demonstrate their faithfulness. Although the cult associated with it has vanished, the monastery remains to this day. Those who wish to visit the peak can do so by ascending a 130-foot stairway. A Georgian monk has made the peak his home for nearly two decades. The towering staircase is often referred to as the ‘stairway to heaven’. However, only males are permitted to scale the rock formation, and that too under specific circumstances.
