Embark on a private walking tour with a local expert for an immersive cultural journey into Lower Lavra Monastery, which features caves with sacred shrines and saints, and The Upper Lavra, showcasing The Assumption Cathedral, Refectory church, The Great Bell Tower, offering a spectacular view over Kyiv, amongst other things. Journey into one of Ukraine’s seven wonders, the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a substantially important site both religiously and historically. The key sacred location of Ukrainian Orthodoxy, the Kyiv Pechersk Cave Lavra, is a monastery complex renowned for its monks and hermits who were buried there, a spiritually uplifting ambiance and its unique subterranean caves. The monastery was established in the 11th century by a monk named Anthony, who was seeking solitude in the wilderness, and excavated a cave within a mountainside. Over time, fellow monks came to join him, and the monastery expanded with generous donations of land and money from affluent princes. The history of Lavra records multiple instances of destruction, persecution, and fires, yet it has unfailingly maintained its position as the hub of Ukrainian Orthodoxy throughout the centuries.
