Create your own copper tray by hand!
In this exclusive workshop, participants can immerse themselves in genuine Japanese metalcraft.
An experienced artisan will guide you in crafting a beautiful tray.
You can take your tray home the same day.
- 1-15 Shūgakuin Yamanohanachō - In this activity, participants use a hammer, a wooden hammer, and a rubber hammer to shape a tray by striking copper.
You can choose to keep the copper’s natural color or opt for a black finish.
For the natural copper color, polish it with an abrasive at the end. Enjoy the evolving patina of the copper over time.
To achieve a black finish, the copper is treated with ammonium sulfide diluted approximately 500 times with water. While this solution is generally safe, a metalsmith will handle this process for added safety. The tray is then coated with wax, a step also performed by a metalsmith due to the need for heating.
The tray measures approximately 9.5 cm in outer diameter and about 1.5 cm in height.
