- Nishiki Market Shopping District - Nishiki Market is the traditional food market located in the downtown area in Kyoto. We will stop by 2-3 family owned shops to try sample-size food that represents the food culture and history in Kyoto.
- Kyoto - We will visit 2-3 restaurants to try Kyoto style food ranging from Obanzai (Kyoto style cuisine) to local izakaya dishes.
- Pontocho District - We will walk through the Pontocho District which is a mini geisha district where we will learn the history of Kyoto and the geisha culture.

Meet the guide in front of Kyoto Plaza Shijo on the main street.
The tour starts at 5pm on the dot. If you miss the 5pm meet-up, please join the group at the first sit-down restaurant which we send you about a week before the tour date.

Perfect introduction to Kyoto - What an amazing introduction to the Kyoto food scene. We were beyond happy with all the food from market snacks to the restaurants we visited. Especially loved the sake bar experience and knowledge of our guides!

Great tour with Taishi - We did this tour with Taishi as our guide in mid-September. What I thought was special about this tour was that the guides hand-pick the food locations, so you know they're good and are places that locals go to rather than just tourists.
Taishi was also very easygoing and easy to talk to, and even hung out with us after the tour was over. We would've also chosen him for our food tour in Osaka a few days later, but unfortunately had already booked a non-refundable tour before he told us he also did food tours in Osaka. I recommend this tour with Taishi specifically as a guide!

Not to be missed in Kyoto! 💯 DO IT! - This night was one of the most memorable parts of our whole trip to Japan! Our host, Chica, was so much fun and knowledgeable about all the delicious food we got to try throughout the course of the evening. We tried so many things we would never even know to order and had some special kinds of sake too! It was so fun to have all the dishes just brought ti the table and not even have to look at a menu. We found it so relaxing after a busy day of playing tourist all over Kyoto. I HIGHLY recommend this tour if you’re visiting this area of Japan. You will not regret it!!!

Terrific night of food in Kyoto - We had a fabulous time. Chika was a very funny and knowledgable guide who took us to places we would never have seen on our own. The tour was very generous with sake, beer and other drinks and an enormous variety of local foods. Nishiki market was a highlight. Highly recommmend.

Great night out in Kyoto - We had a great night out with Taishu our guide and 7 other people. Loved that the group size was small. We tried many different dishes over the night and got to visit three small restaurants and the food market. We also got some recommendations for other food places to visit.

Great food! 10/10 - We had a great time with Chikako (Chika). The food and sake was great. We didn’t leave hungry. We even went back to some of the spots. I would recommend this tour as a solo traveler, group, etc. It’s definitely a must in Kyoto. I have done a LOT of food tours while traveling. This was one of my favorites. We’re booking a food tour through the company when we’re back in Tokyo and potentially Osaka. I felt like I learned a lot too. Loved!

Felt like a local - Yuina and Chika were amazing tour guides! They made us feel like we were a group of friends exploring the city and tasting great food. All of the food they picked for us was really tasty and gave us a good overview of the most popular dishes here in Kyoto. They also gave us a great overview of the different types of sake and what foods go best with each one. Overall, it was great experiencing the city with these two!

great introduction to Kyoto's food scene - Moe was an excellent guide and provided lots of great information about the delicious food we were eating, most of which I wouldn't know to order on my own. It was such a fun night and she is not only knowledgable, but also super friendly and fun. It was a great way to start our Kyoto trip and now we know where to eat for the rest of our stay!
