- 38-4 Fukakusa Watamorichō - Upon arrival at the house, our English-speaking host will guide you to the kitchen. Here, you’ll learn to make a type of Wagashi (Japanese sweets) in a hands-on class, not just a demonstration. After the class, you’ll participate in a tea ceremony. First, the host will explain the proper way to attend the ceremony. Next, weather permitting, we’ll walk through a small garden and enter an authentic Japanese-style room. Once seated on the tatami floor, the instructor will discuss the history of the tea ceremony and the significance of the hanging scroll on the wall. You’ll then enjoy the Japanese sweets you made while the instructor demonstrates how to drink a bowl of Matcha. Finally, you’ll meet the host, who will demonstrate the ceremonial preparation of Matcha, which you’ll then get to enjoy. Afterwards, you’ll have the chance to prepare it yourself. All our instructors are licensed guide interpreters, ensuring that all participants can easily understand the information covered in the class. After this experience, you’ll be able to prepare Wagashi and serve Matcha to your friends.
