Pontocho is situated in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, known as a red-light and entertainment district nestled between the Kamo River and Kiyamachi Street. It boasts numerous restaurants and souvenir shops.

The Kamo River flows from north to south through Kyoto City, spanning approximately 27km. It originates near Mount Sajikigatake and merges with the Katsura River. This river has supported the capital and Kyoto’s culture for a millennium, maintaining its clarity amidst the bustling city, and is cherished by many as a peaceful retreat.
